‘The Art of the Drummer’ is a personal photography project that I started in 2009. It’s the product of two passions of mine.

Drumming has always been something I’ve loved as a means of expressing myself. The drum kit is an incredibly versatile instrument; enabling a full range of creative expression and allowing individual drummers to discover and communicate their own unique feel and style.

Whilst drumming can be creative and very intuitive, it is underpinned by a science of precision, co-ordination and mathematical patterns. I have been fascinated by the interplay of art and science that the drum kit demands - the intriguing combination of regular, rhythmical patterns interplayed skillfully by flashes of syncopation, dynamics, energy and colour.

The ‘Art of the Drummer’ has been designed to visually capture the unique musical signature of the drummer. The collection includes a number of visual representations of famous songs with inspiring drumming - interpreted, played and photographed by myself in homage to the genius of the originals.
